ABYC's Ed Sherman and Cruising World Editor-at-Large Tim Murphy have created something unique in the world of primers; they began at the actual beginning. The first chapter of the book that belongs in every boating enthusiast and student’s library covers the parts of a boat. Subsequent chapters explore safety practices, electrical systems, engine drive systems, electronics, plumbing, marine materials all presented in a logical and easy to understand format. Their building block chapter style creates platforms that grow and expand to complete a picture of the total vessel. To further solidify the learning process, each chapter concludes with a 10 question multiple choice review quiz that allows the reader track their own progress.
This Marine Service Technology program is designed to offer students hands-on operation of boats, motors and trailers and to teach the practical application in the field of Marine Technology. The curriculum is a Virginia Department of Education modification of an existing ABYC course and is designed to bring into the Marine Trades a force of younger workers who will learn about the various Maritime fields.
