This course will examine the resources provided to man by the Earth using the Chesaeake Bay as a model. It will give students an opportunity to examine the people, plants, animals, and all other life that calls Earth home, along with all the things that make life possible. Students will also learn how the human population has taxed the available resources and how people can become better caretakers of the Earth.

GOALS:

  • 1)Learn how organisms interact with their environment and how organisms adapt to a changing environment
  • 2)Learn about various ecosystems on the Earth and the environment threats that they are facing
  • 3)Learn about endangered and extinct species
  • 4)Investigate Virginia's natural resources, environmental protection policies, and the declining productivity of the Chesapeake Bay
  • 5)Learn about various forms of energy and advantages and disadvantages associated with each
  • 6)Learn about current local, state, national and global environmental issues (global warming, greenhouse effect, deforestation, water pollution and air pollution)
